The U.S.S. Hornet
yes - anybody can go!
Location:  The U.S.S. Hornet docked in Alameda, CA

Information:

Friday March 21, 2008

It should be no surprise that the USS Hornet, now moored at Alameda Naval Base, California,
now holds the distinction of being the Navy’s most haunted ship. Historians estimate that nearly 300
people died while working on the ship during her active service, which spanned 1943 to 1970. Though
some men perished during combat, others died because of shipboard accidents. Some ghosts are said
to be of enemies destroyed by the crew of the ship during combat.

Incidents have occurred in spots all over the ship -- ladders, decks, hangars, even in CIC, the Combat
Information Center. Voices can be heard in the large hangars when no one is there and more EVPs
have been captured on this ship than any other in American History.

People that work on the aging ship and visitors as well frequently report visions of sailors at work as if
on a fighting ship at sea. Doors open and close by themselves. Tools vanish and then reappear after
a lengthy search. Objects fall from shelves. Toilets flush themselves. Handles on doors shake and
move by themselves... And there are always those “cold” areas where people feel that eerie sensation
of not being alone.... some even reporting being touched by something when no one was around.
