The non-profit establishment not only offers exquisite theater from admirable professionals but also has been noted throughout the years for its strange occurrences and reported paranormal activity by employees, actors and theatergoers. The history of the theater started when it was built in 1942 as the Sacramento Civic Repertory to entertain locally stationed troops during World War II. The main stage was originally recognized in October 1949 as the Eaglet Theater that is now called the Sacramento Theatre Company Main stage which seats up to 300 audience members. The theater is also very well noted for Stage Two, which seats up to 90 members for very personal performances. The Sacramento Theatre has been home to many thriving actors such as Tom Hanks early in his acting career. Throughout the years, the Sacramento Theatre Company has attained National recognition for not only superb performances but also for reported “haunting,” spanning over many decades. The legend stems that there is a primary ghost that has been named Pinky by various employees due to a pinkish aura apparition that manifests throughout the whole theater. Some employees have reported and believe that “Pinky” takes a great interest in the Theaters accreditation and reputation. The building also has been noted for supernatural activity that resides in the costume room upstairs. Some paranormal researchers have reported an elderly woman who seems to “run” the costume room and makes herself known with moving sewing equipment, boxes, rattling mannequins, presenting herself with cold spots. Other reports claim to see big orbs floating on stage and sweet flowery perfume that may manifest with no explanations. These haunting or spiritual visitations seem to have a life of their own manifesting at all hours of the day or night unprovoked. The main consensus from staff members seems to be that they feel that these apparitions and ghosts are not mean spirited but seem to have such a deep connection and loyal attachment to the establishment and people. The Sacramento Theatre Company not only is well received by critics but by ghosts as well. API set out to investigate these happenings and experience the Sacramento Theatre firsthand. On a chilly night in October, API’s investigators took the stage for a few hours and this is what they experienced…. Phenomena witnessed through out the evening: A number of our investigators heard a door slam shut in the costume room, where no one was present. API was not able to debunk this. While investigators were present in the costume room, boxes were heard rustling and a mannequin moved slightly. There was no notable explanation for this. When one of our investigators went to enter the sound room, the door opened without her touching it. Again, this could not be debunked. Footsteps were also heard coming from the sound room as well as the main stage area. EMF readings were not reliable within the theater due to large amounts of older, high voltage electrical wiring through out the building. Temperature readings were also fairly consistent through out the evening.
