Psychometry is the ability to read the history of certain objects by holding the associated object in your
hand or placing it on some part of the body. Psychometric impressions may come in the form of emotions,
sounds, scents, tastes or images. The reader may visualize images that can appear as three-dimensional or
one-dimensional pictures, but can usually pick up key historic points or associations with the object.
Metaphysicians often claim that by using personal objects rich in history will also give the reader more clarity
in the vision. Objects that emit electromagnetic energy usually work the best for psychometry.

The practice became noticed when Joseph R. Buchanan an American Professor of physiology in 1842
started to do experiments with psychometry. He did much of his research and testing with his students to
identify and name specific drugs simply by holding the unmarked vials. Interestingly, he theorized that many
objects contained soul properties, such as cells and all things give off an emanation, which retains the history
of the object. Buchanan published the results of these experiments in his book, “Journal of Man.”
Many later scientists were inspired to conducted further experiments such as William F. Denton, an
American Professor of geology who tested his sister with specimens wrapped in cloth placing the specimens
upon her forehead. She was able to accurately describe these specimens through her vivid metal images.

During the 1920’s there was a German doctor and physical researcher Gustav Pagenstecher who believed
that a psychometrist could tune in the vibrations and stored energies of the held object. He had much
success with one of his tested patients named Maria Reyes de Zierold. Maria allegedly placed herself in a
meditation state, as she was able to accurately detail facts of the objects past and present.
It is interesting that in current times, there are numerous studies that expound on some of the theories that
physical properties of objects may retain and hold cellular molecular memories.

Some advocates, such as occultist Arnold Crowther believe that psychometry is connected to the belief
of animism, which is the belief that the soul or spirits exists in every object and that inanimate objects have
memories of their own
. Crowther further describes psychometry using the “soul’s eye” or the “mind’s eye”. It
seems the mind senses and receives the impressions or visions by storing them in the same cerebral center
where dreams are registered. This center would be described as located where the pineal gland is located in
the middle of the brain. Some modern doctors still refer to the pineal gland as the “third eye” that has been
known to have many metaphysical abilities.

In modern day, metaphysicians, average citizens, occultists and witches practice psychometry in various ways.
A good way to start the practice is to remember to relax and get grounded before reading. It is also
important to remember that there is not a perfect way to read. Everybody comes from different energy
source and retrieve information in different ways. It is wise to read with positive intent and not to judge what
information comes forth.

There are many good referenced sites that explain the history and ways to effectively practice psychometry
that is another fascinating tool that can be use to develop advanced senses.
