Author:  Daniel is a in the 8th grade and
has an avid interest in the paranormal.
With his mother and the support of the
Brookdale staff, he set forth on a huge
project equivalent of an investigative team.
"To prove or disprove the existence of
ghosts."  We all were very impressed with
his eagerness, responsibility, and
respectfulness.  There is content in his
paper that applies to us all at any age.

Introduction

If I follow the procedures and use the same kind of equipment that professional ghost investigators use in conducting an
investigation, then I too should be able to experience paranormal activity.  By doing my research of the history of the place,
using the equipment required, and conducting an investigation properly, if there is a true haunting, then I should be able to
obtain some evidence to prove just that.
Amazing as it is the data did support the hypothesis.  I did obtain some paranormal activity at the Brookdale Lodge that I
am unable to explain:  Blurred photos, EVPs (electronic voice phenomena), batteries dying and coming back, and the
personal experience of feeling cold spots, hearing a young girl’s voice and footsteps where no one was there.  Ghram Hill
Road Cemetery was a much different experience.  There were a few things that happened but I feel they could be
explained.
Conducting a ghost investigation takes time.  You need to research the place in question and when conducting your
investigation, try to see if you can experience some of the same things others say have happened.  Using the equipment
(camera, audio and video recorder, temp gauge, etc.) is the only way to obtain evidence.  It is very important to go through all
findings extensively because it is easy to miss something.  It is beneficial to share you findings with professionals to help
you identify evidence.
I believe if you have the fortitude and aspiration to become a ghost investigator, then it is possible.  What makes this
experiment so much fun is that there are so many places you can go to conduct an investigation.  Even going to the same
place that has good activity you can always get new evidence and experiences.  Not all investigations go as planned and
sometimes you may not experience any activity but that is part of the quest.  By doing this experiment, I would like to
conduct further investigations or maybe even become part of an investigating team.

Purpose
The purpose of the experiment is to see if there is any credibility to the existence of paranormal activity (ghosts).
Hollywood has entertained us for years on the belief of ghosts and paranormal activity.  Today on television there are
numerous shows on the paranormal.  Even before movies and television, we had ghost stories and urban legends passed
down generations with new ones continuously forming.  Is this just a fascination people have or is there legitimacy to the
existence of ghosts?

Hypothesis
If the equipment that ghost investigators use in conducting an investigation (video camera, digital camera, electronic voice
recorder, EMF- electro magnetic field recorder, and infrared thermometer) is used, then paranormal activity should be
evident.
Variables
•        Independent Variable – Use my own equipment for the investigation on paranormal activity.
•        Dependent Variable – Taking measurements from the equipment when experiencing paranormal activity.
•        Control Variable – Environment was normal except when paranormal activity occurred.

Materials
•        Brookdale Lode, Brookdale, California
•        Santa Cruz Memorial, Santa Cruz, California
•        Samsung Digital Camcorder SCD5000 NTSC
•        Olympus Digital Voice Recorder VN-2100PC
•        Electrosensor EMF (electronic magnetic field) Detector by Sonic Technology
•        Pocket Infrared Thermometer
•        First-aid kit
•        Cellular phone
•        Notebook and pens
•        Compass
•        Flashlights

Procedures
1.        Research and know the history of the place.
2.        Get permission to go on private or public property.
3.        Observe the area in question before hand.
4.        Use all new recordable items for film, tape, batteries, etc.
5.        Check measurements on instruments regularly to be sure they are in working condition.
6.        Enter the site and either privately or as a group ask for blessing or protection for the duration of the hunt.  You can
use this time to put yourself in a positive frame of mind.  It does not have to be a religious thing so everyone can do
            this in some way.
7.        Take pictures and get some recordings.  Be sure to note anything unusual that happens, especially meter and
temperature readings, visual sightings and strange sounds.  Also make notes of any feelings or emotions you feel
that may be odd or out of place.
o        Take random pictures, especially when cold spots or odd feeling occur.  Always take two pictures of the same thing
in case you get a ghost in one.
o        Use your thermometer gauge to get readings of cold spots and follow with the EMF recorder to detect ghosts.
o        While conducting an EVP session wait about 15 seconds between each question.
        Follow your manufactures instructions on all equipment you use.
8.        When you are done, have everyone meet in one spot and ask the human spirits here not to follow you home and to
remain here.  Tell the others they must remain here in the name of God (or other good deities).
9.        Go through your data extensively; it is easy to miss something.

Ghost History

Ghost stories filled folklore long before the written word.  By the first century A.D., historians were beginning to write
down popular ghost tales and legends.  It is difficult to tell, thousands of years after they were written, whether the earliest
records of ghosts were literary inventions or whether apparitions had, indeed, been observed.
Ghost stories dating from ancient Greek and Roman periods were often based on legends rather than first-hand
experience.  Marchen stories, as they were called, were generally assumed to be fictional.  Sagen legends, on the other
hand, were thought to be fact with literary embellishments.
Following the Restoration in seventeenth-century England, several important collections of ghost stories were assembled
and near the end of the nineteenth century, Father Vittore Jouet of the Sacro Cuore del Suffragio Church in Rome,
took it upon himself to investigate the many stories he had heard about spirits returning from the beyond to visit their loved
ones.
Since the beginning of the electronic age, messages from the dead have been received from every form of communication
devices.  Voices have come through telegraph and wireless, phonograph records, and loudspeakers.  So many spirits’
voices have been heard coming over the radio that the paranormal activity has been given a name: radio voice phenomena, or
RVP.  The term, electronic voice phenomena, or EVP, is usually reserved for ghost voices picked up on magnetic (audio)
tape.
There is belief that there must be something that keeps the spirit here or draws it back to this side of the veil.  Sometimes
death occurred so suddenly that the ghost does not know it is dead.  The spirit is just hanging around, clueless that it does
not belong here.  Other reasons are: to give a warning, or to help, comfort, or advise mortals; to confess their guilt or sins;
to obtain a proper burial so that they and their remains may “rest in peace.”; to return to a place they loved, loathed, or
were otherwise attached to during life; to guard, protect, or simply watch over the premises or, less frequently, a person; to
provide for their heirs by telling where treasure was hidden; or to seek revenge, right a wrong, or obtain justice (especially if
the deceased had been murdered).
The Society of Psychical Research, or SPR, was founded in London in 1882.  It was the most important early
association dedicated to the systematic study of ghost activity.  It grew out of the Spiritualism craze that swept England in
the 1870’s but its purpose was to examine spirit activity in the light of scientific knowledge and religious beliefs.
Although the terms are sometimes used interchangeable, ghost investigations and ghost hunts are different things, even
though they have the same goal: to sight and record spectral activity.  A ghost investigation is a carefully controlled,
scientific research project of a location known, reported, or presumed (though usually with probable cause) to be haunted.
A ghost hunt is simply an attempt to sight or sense a ghost, often in a location where there’s been no previously reported
paranormal activity.  Ghost hunters usually choose a location just because there are rumors that it is haunted or similar sites
have been haunted, such as cemeteries or decrepit buildings (Ogden 15-25).

Brookdale History

Brookdale Lodge is located deep in the Santa Cruz Mountains in Brookdale, California.  The redwood forest was an
original stopping place for the Ohlone Indians from winter to summer.  The Indians came to Brookdale because of the
creek and fishing.  Brookdale was also a path for Monks to travel to mission to mission.  It was also a route for the Pony
Express before California became a state.
In 1870 Brookdale originally opened as the headquarters for the Grover Lumber Mill.  The redwoods that were lumbered
were not only used to build the mill and lodge, but the redwoods were also used help build the original State Capital in
San Jose.  H.J. Logan purchased the mill of Loganbarry fame in 1900 and it was converted into campgrounds and a hotel.
Between the years of 1922 and 1945 the lodge was operated by Dr. F.K. Camp, a Seventh-day Adventist physician.
Mr. Camp built the Brook room; a dining room that has a natural brook enclosed flowing down the center of the room.
This time was the heyday of the lodge.  The Brookdale was the second most popular resort in California and many
celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe, Mae West, Shirley Temple, Rita Hayworth, and even President Herbert Hoover
would enjoy this popular resort.  The lodge was known for its first rate entertainment, the best big band and swing groups
performed there.
It was during prohibition (in the late 1930’s through the early 50’s) the lodge was taken over and run by the mafia.  Becoming
a home for gangsters, secret passageways and hidden rooms were installed throughout the lodge.  Booze, gambling, and
scandalous women were the custom for this lodge.  Rumors of buried bodies began to circulate and in 1936 the niece of
the lodge owner, Sara Logan, drowned in the dining room creek.  Sara was playing on a railing when she fell to her death;
she was only six-years old when she died.
Dr. Camp sold the property, before his death, in 1945 to A.T. Cook and W.G. Smith.  In 1950, one of the original
buildings burned to the ground, resulting in the death of five people.  In 1951, it was again sold to a group of San Francisco
businessmen and then to Barney Marrow.  In 1955, there was a severe flood which followed by another fire.  Mr. Marrow
was able to completely rebuild the lodge using the original building specifications.
Sara was not the only girl to die a watery death.  In 1972, a 13 year old girl drowned in the kidney shaped indoor pool
above the Mermaid Room.  This tragedy led the owners to close the pool, and without this attraction, visitors to the lodge
began to diminish.  In 1982, the creek overflowed again and there was extensive damage done to the Brook room.  The
structure stood vacant for many years then Bill Gilbert and his family bought the lodge and its surrounding acreage.  They
remodeled and restored it to its current appearance and reopened the pool (“Brookdale Lodge”).

Brookdale Ghost Sightings

Over the years there have been many sightings by visitors and staff of little Sarah Logan. People have said they have seen
her in a 1940’s style white and blue Sunday dress walking through the lobby or near the fireplace between the lounge and
Brook room.  She has also been seen playing on the balcony where she fell off of years ago in the Brook room, and
sitting beside the fire in the Fireside Room.
Sara is not the only paranormal activity, it has been reported that there are as many as 49 separate entities.  Late at night,
doors slam and footsteps are often heard in empty rooms.  People have also reported cold spots, presences, and even
being touched by unseen forces.  In the Mermaid Room and Brook room visitors and staff have experienced hearing
voices, the clinking of glasses and plates, and big band music has been heard playing faintly when the room was empty. The
jukebox located here (now located in the bar) has been known to turn itself on and off when nobody is near it and the piano
in the poolroom would play by itself.
In the 1970's a wing of motel rooms was built over the spot where once stood the lodge's camping cabins.  Room 46 of the
motel wing is reported to be very haunted. A woman who worked at the lodge in exchange for lodging has reported that at
night objects and shapes would fly across the room.  She also reported ghostly ballroom dancers would swirl around
leering at her as they floated by.  She said ghosts would materialize around her bed, their faces sometimes vague and
sometimes very, very clear.  She saw a ghost of a little boy, perhaps 12 or 13 years old.  Another was a man with his eye
hanging loose on his cheek, and a man with a knife wound across his face.  She also reports that once she felt somebody
sit on the edge of her bed and stroke her arm (“Brookdale Lodge”).
When conducting the investigation, it gives credibility to the stories if the same experiences are experienced.  It is even
more important to get evidence (evidence of paranormal activity is when no scientific explanation can be given) of what is
experienced.  Evidence was obtained of footsteps being heard in a room no one occupied.  The three of us did here the
faint sounds of the restaurant going on even though it was empty.  Evidence of cold spots were obtained and collaborated
with ghostly activity (EVP’s, batteries being drained, etc.).  Even though Brenda had the sensation of feeling someone
touch her while in room 64, because she was lethargic and we have no audio or video recordings of the event, it can’t be
taken as evidence.

Brookdale Investigation

I first performed an internet search to find known haunted places and the Brookdale Lodge caught my attention the most.
The ghost sightings there seemed abundant so I had to see for myself.  I had my mom call the lodge to see if I could
conduct an investigation.  Not only was I allowed to conduct my investigation, but she scheduled a personal tour of the
lodge and rented the most, said to be, haunted room the lodge had.
Brookdale Lodge ghost investigation was conducted on December 17, 2006.  The night of our investigation there was a
skeleton (no pun intended) crew working; two in the Brook room and one in the bar.  So our interviews were conducted by
phone, prior to arriving, and some of staff we saw that night.
5:05 pm – Arrived at the Brookdale lodge and checked in.
5:30 pm – Roger Reynolds started the tour by giving us the history of the Brookdale Lodge in the front lobby.  My
mother, Brenda, took pictures of old newspaper clippings and other pictures that were encased in glass shelves showing
some of the history of the Lodge.
After the history lesson, Roger gave us a tour of the Lodge.  As soon as we got to the poolroom, Brenda noticed fuzzy
lines going through the digital camera screen.  Next, we proceeded to the area right before the Brook room (the
restaurant with the creek running through it) and he showed us two large pictures that had ghosts in the pictures.  He
pointed them out and informed us that one of the pictures was taken around the same time the great 1906 Earthquake of
San Francisco.  We then went into the Brook room and Roger showed us the railing where Sara fell.  After the Brook
room, we then proceeded to the ballroom.  Roger told us that mediums have pointed out an area in the room that was
considered to be a vortex (an opening for spirits to enter in and out of).  We then proceeded to the Mermaid room where
Brenda had problems with the camera.  It would not let her go to the menu at 6:06pm.
6:07 pm – When leaving the Mermaid room and entering the ballroom, Brenda had a sudden cold feeling near the band
stage.  Thermal reading went from 52 0F to 47 0F.
6:22 pm – We went back to the main lobby and Roger finished up the tour.  While he was talking, I held the infrared
thermometer in front of and behind Roger.  To my amazement, the thermal reading went form 71 0F to 63 0F.  There were
no drafts or open doors or windows.
6:38 pm – I did another thermal reading around Roger and the reading fluctuated from 810F to 62.3 0F.
After Roger gave us a tour of the lodge, we went to our room to turn on the heat and then went to the bar to have diner
because the restaurant was now closed.  After dinner, my mom and I conducted the investigation on our own in the
ballroom, pool table room, lobby, and the fireside room.
9:20 pm – While conducting an EVP session, large thermal fluctuations occurred in the ballroom along with blurred
pictures.  There was an odd feeling both my mother and I felt when we went behind the stage and more blurred pictures
were seen.
9:40 pm – Experienced more thermal fluctuations readings during EVP session and camera problems near the lobby.
10:19 pm – Started to have problems with camera battery.  Both batteries for the camera were drained during the EVP
session.  Both batteries for the camera were fully charged before entering the lodge.
11:20 pm – Noticed more thermal fluctuations.  We were the only three in the building from this point forward and the main
doors were locked so no one could enter.
12:00 am – When Aaron, the bartender closed the bar he took us though the entire facility with all lights out except for the
main lobby and dimmed lights on in the ballroom.  When conducting the EVP session through the Brook room, all three of
us heard the faint sounds of glasses and plates clinking and people talking in the Brook room when we got closer to the
creek.  It happened for only a brief moment, and then Brenda and Aaron got a heavy feeling at a back table near the creek.
We felt cold spots and got readings from the infrared thermometer to concur where cold spots did form.  The batteries in
the camera would die and then come back so it was difficult to do any video or get pictures.
Next, we went to the Mermaid room, then to the pool continuing the EVP session.  After experiencing cold spots and
having the battery to the camera die again, we left the room to exit.  Passing through the ballroom, we waited for Aaron to
lock the place up then we were shocked when we heard footsteps walk above us in the poolroom.  The steps sounded wet,
like when a person gets out of the pool or shower.  We were the only three in the building and the experience did spook
us.  All three of us went to the main lobby and waited for Aaron to finish locking a few doors.  When leaving the loge,
Aaron escorted us across the parking lot to our motel room.
1:00 am – After settling down in the room we conducted our last EVP session.  We also put a blank video cassette in the
camera to film while we slept.  Brenda heard voices when getting up to use the restroom, in the early morning hours but was
too tired to see if anyone was outside talking.  Around 7:30 am, while still in bed, Brenda heard footsteps walk towards her
and felt pressure on her back.  She turned to see if I touched her, but I didn’t.  Because she was lethargic, she can’t say if
she was daydreaming but she was awake and aware after that.
We both got up and got ready for the next investigation.  We checked out and headed back to Santa Cruz for our meeting
with the manager at the cemetery.
When we were back in Fresno and going over our data, my mom called the Lodge to speak with Aaron regarding the
footsteps we heard.  She spoke to Michelle, a Brookdale employee, and when she told her why she wanted to speak with
Aaron, Michelle got excited.  She said Aaron had told her what happened the very next day and they both went up to the
poolroom that has been locked since.  They have no explanation as to what happened but Michelle has heard, late at night
while closing up, the sound of footsteps and moving furniture.  This was Aaron’s first experience after being there for only
three months.
It is my impression that the Brookdale employees are intrigued by things that bump in the night and are proud of their lodge’
s history.  This was an exiting investigation and an experience I will never forget.

Brookdale Lodge Data

Brookdale Conclusion

Yes, the data supports the hypothesis.  By using the proper equipment (video camera, digital camera, electronic voice
recorder, EMF- electro magnetic field recorder, and infrared thermometer) and conducting an investigation, paranormal
activity was detected.
The video camera and the electronic reader did not detect any evidence.  The digital camera picked up an orb, a ghostly
figure, blurred photos where nothing was moving, and odd lights.  There have not been any problems of blurred pictures
with the camera, before or after the investigation.  Blurred photos and odd lights were the same experience as the
American Paranormal Investigations team experience, on August 5th, 2006, with their cameras when they conducted their
investigation.  My Aunt also had blurred pictures with her camera when going to the lodge the following week I conduction
my investigation.
The main evidence is from the electronic voice recorder.  EVPs (electronic voice phenomena) are heard throughout the
investigation.  A young child’s voice is heard saying the word “trouble” and some mumbling.  An adult woman can be heard
laughing and whispering in parts of the recording.  Other whispers, short words, and odd sounds are heard on the recorder
throughout the investigation.  Knowing that the place was closed and locked up and it could not possibly be the voice of
the three of us there nor the sound of the creek, I can only conclude that EVPs occurred.
It is my conclusion that the Brookdale Lodge is haunted by paranormal activity.  Neither I nor others are able to explain
some of the experiences we had.  No errors occurred while conducting the investigation and the investigation coincides
with what others have reported and we tried to debunk all experiences.

Ghram Hill Cemetery History

Santa Cruz Memorial has served the local community since 1862.  Peaceful and serene, Santa Cruz Memorial's
surroundings encompass two private chapels, traditional burial park, family mausoleums, lawn crypts, cremation scattering
gardens, and urn garden.
The graves of 23- year old Henry Meyrick Jr. and his wife 21 year old Marion Armstrong contain the seeds of tragedy
worthy of the talents of any great romance writer.  They were inseparable throughout their child and adolescence and when
Armstrong came of age, they were married.  Eight months after their wedding, Marion was smitten by a mysterious ailment,
passed away.  Her death left Henry shaken with grief and inconsolable.  Then on the evening of February 26, 1888,
Meyrick made his way to the cemetery and curled up on the grave of his beloved.  He put a small pistol to his heart and
pulled the trigger.  Henry and Marion were buried side by side to rest together in eternity.
Amus Lunt, a Civil War veteran, came to Santa Cruz during the pioneering days.  While a young man, he entered law
enforcement after being elected constable of the city of Santa Cruz.  In the late 1880s he served as Chief of Police, but
was fired in 1889 after a policy dispute over arresting alcoholics.
The following year, Lunt went to work as a guard at San Quentin prison and was given the difficult job of hangman.  For
eight years, Lunt was responsible for releasing the trap door on dozens of condemned men and became nicknamed,
“Hangman of San Quentin.”  By 1899, the faces of the prisoners he executed were beginning to haunt him and he grew
restless and violent.  Lunt would draw his pistol and attempt to fire at the hallucinations he believed followed him.  Declared
a danger to the general public, Lunt was eventually placed hospitalized and placed in the Napa State Asylum for the
insane.  He later died September 20, 1901
On the grounds there is a row of four small marble tombs which contain the bodies of the four children of Alfred and
Sarah Hinds.  During the winter of 1876, when a dreaded diphtheria struck California unchecked, carrying out scores of
small children.  The state of medicine was still so primitive that the disease was allowed to vent its fury without mercy.  Their
children ranged in age from fiver years to eight months when diphtheria struck and one-by-one death bore them away.  The
first died on Thanksgiving Day, 1876, and the last passed away on Christmas.
Spalsbury was born at his parent’s farm in 1835, in Jefferson County, New York.  He studied law and was admitted to bar
in 1856 at the age of 20.  With onset of the civil War, Spalsbury quickly enlisted as a captain in Company C, 35th New
York Infantry Volunteers and saw his first action at Bull Run.  Arriving in California in 1875 and Santa Cruz County in
1876 where he established another practice.  He was elected Justice of the peace by popular acclaim “Judge” by his many
friends.  In the mid 1890s, his health took a turn for the worse and he passed away on August 16 1897.
On the southern end of the cemetery at Santa Cruz Memorial Park stands a towering marble pedestal upon which rests a
large cistern that is draped with a long, flowering, delicately hand carved mourning cloth.  It is memorial dedicated by the
people of Santa Cruz to the 13 young men who lost their lives in the devastating explosion that rocked the California
Powder Words on April 26, 1898.  The explosion, or more correctly a series of explosions, began at one of the drying
sheds and ricocheted from one building to another.  They were so cataclysmic that they were felt as far as Salinas and
San Jose where citizens of these assumed they had experienced a major earthquake.  Nearby Santa Cruz, there was no
doubt as to what had just happened as giant plumes of smoke and dust shot skyward and the ground trembled with every
explosions.  The explosion was so bad they did not have bodies to burry but they buried body parts that where found in
trees, creeks, everywhere (Krassow 6-28).

Ghram Hill Cemetery Sightings

There is a cemetery on the left hand side of the road when going up Grahm Hill road right off of Highway 17 in Santa
Cruz.  This cemetery is pretty strange there is a lot of action going on in here.  You can see faces and things moving inside
of the cemetery.  If you pull into the driveway towards the end of the cemetery and shine your headlights you will see a white
figure coming towards you; move, because this ghost is not friendly.  There are many orbs that you can see with the naked
eye and some strange noises heard from the East end of the Cemetery.  Faces are seen in the headstones and dark
shadows above them (“Haunted Places”).
When conducting the investigation, it gives credibility to the stories if the same experiences are experienced.  It is even
more important to get evidence (evidence of paranormal activity is when no scientific explanation can be given) of what is
experienced.  Because it is outside, it is hard to control the environment; therefore, the one orb we obtained on camera
could be dust reflecting light and can not be considered as evidence.  In fact, none of the stories that were mentioned in the
previous paragraph was experienced.  There is evidence of EVPs after going through the data, but that is all.

Ghram Hill Cemetery Investigation

I first performed an internet search.  One of the websites I went to (Shadowlands Haunted Places) listed states and
cities of places that are rumored to be haunted.  Santa Cruz Memorial Park was listed as Ghram Hill Road Cemetery.  It
stated that there was a lot of paranormal activity and I thought it would be a good place to conduct an investigation. I
researched the internet to find a contact number to the cemetery to get permission to do an investigation.  I had my mom call
the cemetery.  She spoke with Randy Krassow to see if I could conduct an investigation.  Randy was willing to interview us
before deciding to let us be on the property at night.
The cemetery ghost investigation was conducted on December 18, 2006.  Besides my mom and I, my uncle, John, and
cousin, Jerry were apart of the investigation.  We all met with Mr. Krassow at 3:30 pm, at the office located on the same
site as the cemetery.  He wanted to know the equipment being used and the process of how I was going to conduct the
investigation.
After Randy agreed to let us be at cemetery from 5:00 pm to 8:30 pm, he gave us a tour of the cemetery in a golf cart
showing us the tombstones that he felt were of interest.  After the tour, we went home to get the rest of our supplies and
came back at five.
5:15 pm – Arrived at Meyricks Memorial and conducted an EVP session.  We had dramatic thermal readings and took
pictures of the memorial.  Amus Lunt Tombstone is located about six graves over from the Meyricks Memorial so we
furthered our investigation to his tombstone as well and worked between the two sites.  Did not notice or experience any
kind of activity at Lunt’s tombstone.  John was walking around the cemetery taking pictures before it got too dark.
6:00 pm – Went over to the Powder Mill Memorial.  By this time it is fairly dark and while conducting the EVP session,
Brenda saw a shadow pass in front of her.  She thought it was me but it wasn’t.  We figured it must have been shadows from
passing cars.  Jerry did noticed some fluctuations in the thermal readings but it was hard to say if there were true cold
spots because it was very cold outside and light winds were felt.
6:30 pm – We went to Edgar Spalsbury’s Tomb.  We did not notice anything at this memorial while doing the EVP
session.
6:45 pm – Went to Hinds Family Children tombstones.  My mom had an inauspicious feeling while being there but she said
it was probably more of an emotional feeling for the parents loosing four children in four weeks.  There was nothing else
experienced by anyone during the EVP session.
7:15 pm – The last tombstone was observed, the Mason Tombstone.  We did a 15 minute EVP session and decided to
call it a night.
It was very cold that night.  I think because it was so cold it was a bit uncomfortable in doing the investigation.  The cold also
made it impossible to decipher a cold spot from cold winds currents or paranormal activity.
The recording from the EVP sessions were somehow deleted from the last three memorials we went to.  If this was a
human error or paranormal activity is unknown.  Because the recordings were lost before we could listen to the data, it is
unknown what evidence, if any, was obtained.
It is my opinion that Ghram Hill Cemetery has no real obvious paranormal activity going on.  EVPs were found but due to
weather conditions and evidence being lost, another investigation should take place to give a final analysis.

Ghram Hill Cemetery Data

Ghram Hill Cemetery Conclusion

The hypothesis is inconclusive at Santa Cruz Memorial Park, otherwise known as Ghram Hill Road Cemetery.  By using
the proper equipment (video camera, digital camera, electronic voice recorder, EMF- electro magnetic field recorder, and
infrared thermometer) and conducting an investigation, some paranormal activity was detected but not enough to support
the hypothesis.  The evidence collected can not give a strong conclusion.
The video camera and the electronic reader did not detect any evidence.  The digital camera picked up an orb and got a
few blurred photos.  It is inconclusive if the orb is dust reflected from sunlight. It was reported that you could see orbs float
around the cemetery and we only got one picture of an orb and because it is outside, it could be dust and light.
The main evidence is from the infrared thermometer, lost of recorded chapters and a few EVPs.  The thermometer gave
various readings.  But the error was it was cold outside and not a controlled environment; it can’t be said it was actual
readings due to wind currents.  We had lost a few of our chapters recorded throughout the investigation.  We turned on the
electric recorder at each tombstone we went to and lost the last three before we got home.  It can not be explained how
this was lost because it was in my possession.  Four EVPs were obtained that can’t be explained.  I believe they may
actually be EVPs.
It is my conclusion that it is inconclusive if the Santa Cruz Memorial Park is haunted by paranormal activity.  What was
reported could be explained except for the a few EVPs we got.  The investigation needs to be done again in a summer
night to really help with cold spot reading and to see if same experiences occur.
